Stevenson Trail GR®70

Hike on the GR®70 Stevenson trail from Puy-en-Velay to Ales through Auvergne and Cevennes region via the departments of Haute-Loire, Lozere, Ardeche and Gard. Guest House, Bed and Breakfast, Hotel, Camping, Inn.

At the end of the last century, R.L. Stevenson, a Scottish writer, undertook a solo journey through the Cévennes in search of the Camisard soul. Starting from Monastier-sur-Gazeille with only a donkey for company, he reached Saint-Jean-du-Gard after a colorful journey, which he described in detail in his book "Travels with a Donkey in the Cévennes". We invite you to follow the Lozère section of this journey. By car, on foot, on horseback, with a donkey: all solutions are good depending on the time you have available. The proposed stages are all of high quality and will make you live the paths you will travel intensely. And don't forget the key book of this pilgrimage in the footsteps of Stevenson! 1878 ... it seems very far away. And yet, today, it is still 1878. Everything is the same.

All the places mentioned are there, for real! The buildings, the streets, the paths ... of course, the heroine is missing, the donkey Modestine. She is no longer of this world. Apparently, she did not leave, like her occasional master, a written relationship intended to immortalize her character. But such is the vocation of the immense soul of a very small donkey, despised, ridiculed, harassed, exhausted, Modestine, less and less combative over the pages, invades more and more the emotional universe of the narrator, changes his gaze on himself, on his "Cévennes".
